Women's New York Fashion Week FW 19/20 Recap | Runway Trends
From bright colors to florals and so much more, the Fall/Winter 2019-2020 Fashion Week collections delivered an eclectic mix of trends. Take a look below at the top trends from the runways of New York City, presented by Fashion Snoops.
KEY RUNWAY TRENDS
Bright colors continue to dominate the runway for FW 19/20. A huge emphasis was seen in pastel neons mixed in with vibrant punchy colors that can either harmonize in a monochrome palette or go in the other direction and clash together for an exciting effect.
Garden florals are taking a backseat while this 60s -inspired daisy floral finds its way at the forefront. This pattern was spotted on the runway sporting relatively small scale and a variation of pastel colors.
Voluminous shoulders continue to be a strong trend for FW 19/20. This bold silhouette adds plenty of femininity to tops and dresses while also ushering in a slight 80's vibe.
Designers continue to draw inspiration from the 90's with this reoccurring tie-dye trend. This look, however, has departed from psychedelic colors, and instead is taking on more subtle color combinations and haphazard dye patterns.
ON THE DANCE FLOOR
This 80's trend is full of dance-floor essentials such as dresses and jumpsuits dripping in metallic sequins, oversized shoulder silhouettes with ruched details, and shortened mini hemlines.
Jumpsuits were seen in a variety of styles for FW 19/20. Some looks opted for a utility look with drawstring closures, durable fabrics, and stacked pockets, while others followed a feminine look with cinched waists and silky fabrics.
COLOR - BLOCK
We've been seeing color-blocking for a few seasons, especially since fashion is getting more colorful. This season, saturated colors were seen pieced together for an impactful look in both evening and daywear looks.
SCULPTED KNIT DRESS
The sculpted knit dress is a new key item on our radar. This look contours the body with attention to a bustier shape and an hourglass silhouette. A glove fit is essential for this look while color-blocking can add extra dimension and shape.
New York designers progress the utility trend for Fall/Winter 19/20. Utility pants were seen with cargo pockets, drawstring details and reflective fabrics. A few designers to execute this trend were 3.1 Phillip Lim, Adeam and Prabal Gurung.
Fringe trim has crossed over into the FW 19/20 season. This time we are seeing it mostly in cozy knitwear as a shaggy trim in various lengths. Some looks took on a more glamorous personality with tassels and diamond fringe.
